Equifax screwed up.
They let the personal information for basically half of everyone get taken. It's like Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers, but instead of half the people disappearing their personal data was leaked on the dark web.
So the bad news is chances are someone's got all your information. The good news is if you have Facebook, a Google account, a smart speaker, Sire, etc. they already had it anyway!
However, now you can actually paid. Equifax settled for 700 Million dollars. So, you can get a minimum of $125 in cash (check or gift card), 10 years of credit monitoring, or if you actually had a lot of problems with this hack you can get more, possibly.
Now you had to have you data taken to get the money, and don;t worry if you don;t know. They have a super easy way to file a claim. So file one and there's 50/50 chance you get $125.
