We recently re-signed our lease in Cortland (My Husband works in Ithaca so it's halfway... a long drive for both of us!) and when we were there our landlord said "Did you guys see the bear the other day?"
Apparently the week before our neighbors saw a bear hanging outside MY bedroom window (as in the one by my side of the bed... ) late one night. They said it rolled around a bit and was there for a few minutes before wandering off. We live in the city of Cortland, we can see 81 from our porch.
A couple of things upset me about this... first, that nobody let us know when it happened or immediately after... so that we didn't oh I don't know, cookout, leave picnic baskets on the porch, or hang around outside after dark. And second, our landlord called the DEC who she said were unconcerned and told her that bears are not uncommon in Cortland... WHAT?
So I found this PSA... and it's full of very useful info if you're going to be in a bear infested area... like Cortland or the Adirondaks this summer. It also happens to be one of the funniest things ever... this reporter is a great sport and a terrible actress! But something about her makes me think we'd be besties (the not afraid to make a fool of yourself part...)
